A chilling terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday has left the entire nation outraged after a Hindu tourist from Karnataka's Shivamogga, identified as Manjunath, was gunned down in front of his wife and child. The shocking attack is being seen not just as a barbaric act of terrorism, but also a deliberate religious targeting of Hindu civilians.
Manjunath had traveled to Kashmir with his wife Pallavi and their young son for a peaceful vacation that turned into a blood-soaked nightmare. “It happened around 1.30 pm. We were at Pahalgam. He died on the spot, right in front of me,” Pallavi said, still reeling from shock and grief. “It still feels like a bad dream,” she added, tears choking her voice.
According to Pallavi, the attack was cold-blooded and calculated. “Three to four terrorists attacked us. I told them – kill me too, you’ve already killed my husband. One of them said, ‘I won’t kill you. Go tell this to Modi’.” This chilling statement is being interpreted as a direct message to the Prime Minister, mocking India’s resolve against terror.
Pallavi also claimed that the terrorists appeared to be targeting Hindus. Her heartbreaking testimony adds to the disturbing nature of the Pahalgam massacre that has now claimed 26 lives, including foreign nationals and children. The couple had just been enjoying a quiet afternoon in the lush Baisaran meadows, unaware of the horror that would unfold.
Despite the trauma, Pallavi acknowledged the help of three local civilians who came to her aid in the aftermath. “They rescued me. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them,” she said. She also appealed to authorities to expedite the process of bringing Manjunath’s body back to Shivamogga. “It’s difficult to bring his body down. It needs to be airlifted. We need him home. We want him back immediately.”
This horrifying attack has ignited nationwide calls for accountability and justice. The widow’s words — “Go tell this to Modi” — now echo as both a cry for help and a challenge to India's leadership to respond with firm and uncompromising action against those who dare to kill innocents in the name of terror.
